Francesco Somaini is an assistant professor of journalism at Central Washington University. He received his PhD in Media Studies from the University of Oregon in 2014. Before entering academia, he was a reporter for Italian-language daily newspapers in Switzerland.

Somaini’s research interest include print and online journalism, international communication, compared media systems, sociolinguistics, representations of minorities in the media, and news coverage of immigration. His most recent scholarship focuses on the representations of immigrants in news stories and online comments.
