Francesco Somaini was a journalist for one and a half decades, most of which spent working as a reporter for the main Italian-language daily newspaper in Switzerland. He joined the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication’s doctoral program in 2010. He received his PhD in Media Studies in 2014 and now is a postdoctoral fellow at the same institution.

Somaini’s research interest include print and online journalism, user-generated content, international communication, compared media systems, sociolinguistics, representations of minorities in the media, news coverage of immigration. His most recent scholarship focuses on the relationship between news coverage and feedback provided by audiences through social networking services.
